Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is set to hand Matty Longstaff a start when his club faces off against Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, according to a report which was published by The Northern Echo.

The youngster impressed during the Magpies last outing as he scored the winner for his side as they recorded a memorable 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

It was certainly a Newcastle league debut to remember for the younger of the two Longstaff brothers.

Magpies boss Bruce has since admitted that he was unsure about whether Longstaff would have what it took to serve as cover for the suspended Isaac Hayden, but the player certainly was able to exceed the expectations of his manager as well as fans and pundits at large.

With Newcsatle battler Hayden set to be suspended for the Chelsea game again, Longstaff will almost likely be handed a second consecutive Premier League start.

It will be a great opportunity for him and if he impresses, the rising star could also potentially go on to establish himself as one of the Tyneside club’s first-choice players along with his brother.

Another Newcastle option that Bruce has to add some experience is to bring in either Jonjo Shelvey or Ki Sung-Yeung.

However, it will be worth it to pair the two Longstaff brothers alongside each other again following their impressive display two weeks ago.

Neither Ki or Shelvey appears to be suited to the style of play that Newcastle boss Bruce wants to infuse at St James Park, hence their lack of game time so far this season.
