Tottenham Hotspur are said to be ready to listen to offers for first-team defenders Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld as they get set to embark on major surgery to their squad in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
The news comes just days after Mauricio Pochettino appeared to apply the pressure to his bosses in the board room, when he demanded he is supported in the close season as he looks to take Spurs up to the next level.
Under the Argentine, Tottenham have established themselves as one of the best sides in the country, and have now started to get the better of some of Europe’s elite sides in the Champions League although they have no silverware to show for their efforts.
The job that Pochettino has done in his tenure at White Hart Lane is beginning to alert the attention of some of the powerhouses of European football, and Spurs fans fear if their manager doesn’t get the backing he craves he will leave for a new club.
One way of getting the funds he requires could be to move players on, and that means the Londoners are ready to listen to offers for the duo of international defenders.
The news that Alderweireld could leave in the summer is nothing new. A contract dispute between him and the club has been well-documented for a while, and although the Belgian has a year left on his current deal with the option for another year, with no resolution looking likely he may well move on.
Rose has spent much of the campaign out with injury which has allowed Ben Davies to blossom in his absence, and after relations between himself and the Spurs hierarchy became strained after comments the left-back made last summer, it comes as no surprise that he could be offloaded to allow some star signings to be made.
Manchester United are said to be tracking the two Tottenham men, while Alderweireld in particular will be in demand by a number of big clubs. He has the potential to lure even more interest in his services as he represents Belgium in the upcoming World Cup this summer too.
