Tottenham Hotspur’s Wembley hoodoo continued on Sunday when they were defeated 2-1 by Chelsea, with many of the home faithful singling out one man as the main culprit.

Spurs went behind after a brilliant free-kick from Marcos Alonso sailed over the wall and nestled into Hugo Lloris’ top corner to allow the Blues to lead at the half-time interval.

A free-kick from Tottenham star Christian Eriksen late in the second-half was converted into his own goal by Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, however the Spaniard pounced on an error by Victor Wanyama and hammered home through the French keeper with just a few minutes left to play.

The Kenyan midfielder, who has been ever-present for Spurs since joining them from Southampton, had a difficult time in the middle of the park, losing possession of the ball fairly often.

This was a far cry from Wanyama’s excellent performances last season, where he was a crucial player as Tottenham finished second in the Premier League.

The defeat to Antonio Conte’s side continues a relatively poor record against Chelsea for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

However, many believe that Tottenham were unfortunate to have been beaten once again, with the majority considering the Blues lucky to take all three points from the game.

Spurs will want to put the loss behind them as quickly as possible, as they prepare to host Burnley next Sunday and get back to winning ways.

Tottenham fans have seemingly taken to social media to blame Wanyama for his performance in the London derby, believing he was ‘awful’ and was at fault for Alonso’s late winner, although they could quite have easily blamed Lloris as equally.
