Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated midfielder Tanguy Ndombele picked up a new injury during his side’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Sheffield United on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Spurs summer signing started the game against the Blades but was withdrawn at half-time.
Pochettino has stated that the Tottenham medical staff will assess the all-action midfielder over the international break.
“We need to assess him now. I don’t know anything at this moment,” the Spurs boss said, as reported by Football London.
“He felt pain in his groin but I don’t know if that was before or during the game it happened.
“Yes, a strange situation because my feeling was that he wasn’t comfortable on the pitch but he said was ok during the game.
“Then in the end we arrived at half-time and the doctor said to me that we needed to change because he can’t continue in the game.”
There is absolutely no doubt that the 1-1 draw against the Blades will be a major frustration to Pochettino as well as fans of Spurs.
Wilder’s side may be playing well this season but they are a side whom the North Londoners would have been expecting to routinely beat.
On paper there is a gulf in class between the two sides, but in the end Tottenham were lucky to escape with a point after the visitors had a valid goal ruled off by VAR.
The result left Spurs in 14th position on the top-flight standings with just 14 points after 12 games.
Tottenham will clearly not be title contenders this season and as this rate, attaining a top four finish could even be a tough ask.
Next up for Spurs is a game against West Ham at the London Stadium after the international break.
For Ndombele, an injury setback is the latest blow in a lukewarm start to life at the North London club.
