Southampton will get the Premier League weekend underway on Friday night, when they play host to high flying Leicester City at St Mary’s Stadium, but they will be without three members of their squad for the clash.
Saints head into the contest with Brendan Rodgers’ men in growing need of a result after a period without a win, which has seen them drop a little too far down the table for their comfort.
Southampton are without a home win this term, and now would be a wonderful time to end that winless run, although in truth they have flattered to deceive in front of their own fans for a while now.
They picked up some hope last week when they held Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw, and if the Saints can win at St Mary’s for the first time this season, they will ease the pressure which is beginning to mount on boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
If they are to do that, Southampton will have to do it without three members of their squad, who remain out injured.
Saints trio of Moussa Djenepo, Cedric and Will Smallbone will all be absent for the contest, as Hasenhuttl confirmed ahead of the game.
“I’m sorry to say but it’s still the same. We cannot count on Moussa (Djenepo) or Cédric or (Will) Smallbone.” The Southampton official website quotes him as saying.
“Moussa is back on the pitch but for a game it’s too early. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, so I hope in one or two weeks we can count on him again.”
If the Saints are to force a win against the Foxes, the chances are they are going to have to improve defensively, having shipped seven goals in their last two home matches, a run which is not sustainable if they hope to progress in the months to come.
