Southampton star Ryan Bertrand has emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan, according to a report published by the Daily Mail.
The 29-year-old has been one of the bright sparks within the Saints side since he joined the club in 2014 from Chelsea.
Bertrand is arguably one of the Premier League’s best players from outside the top six clubs. The Southampton star, who has 14 England caps, is good enough to be playing in the Champions League.
At his age and with his experience, he may well be tempted into leaving Southampton and moving to a club that can offer him the opportunity to play in Europe’s premier club competition.
Bertrand being linked away from the Saints is nothing new and the St Mary’s Stadium faithful will be hoping that it is again only speculation and nothing more concerete.
Ralph Hasenhuttl will want to keep the defender at Southampton, despite his recent injury concerns.
Bertrand only played 14 Premier League games for the Saints last season. This was the fewest amount of appearances that he made for the south coast club in a single season since his arrival from Chelsea.
Southampton once again flirted with relegation during the past season and they clearly need to bolster their side with quality new recruits if they want to once again avoid the drop next term.
The Saints should ideally be aiming to sign players with experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues this summer.
