Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu could make a shock return to former club Barcelona this summer, according to The Sun.

The Spanish midfielder started his career with the Catalan giants, but after only making one appearance for their senior team moved to Chelsea in 2011.

However, his time with the London club didn’t go smoothly, as after his debut season he picked up a knee injury in December 2012 which kept him out for the rest of the campaign.

After loan spells away in Spain with Valencia and Stuttgart in Germany in the following two years, the 25-year-old left Stamford Bridge permanently in 2015 and moved to the South Coast with Southampton.

Romeu has made 36 appearances in all competitions for the saints so far this campaign and has now caught the eye of his former employers, who are reportedly looking to make a sensational move for him as they prepare to line-up Sergio Busquets’ successor.

Despite Saints not looking to sell their midfield star, if Barcelona do come knocking for him the club and player may find the offer made is too good to refuse.
