Southampton return to Premier League action on Sunday with a home clash against Burnley, as Mark Hughes’ men aim to start the new 2018-19 campaign with three points.

The Saints were embroiled in a relegation battle last season and the south coast club will hope that a positive start this time round will ensure they avoid any hint of a repeat performance.

Southampton have named their starting XI for the clash against Burnley and interestingly it looks as though Hughes is opting for a three-man central defence and a 3-5-1-1 formation.

New signing Jannik Vestergaard is set to make his debut for the St Mary’s Stadium outfit and is likely to be flanked by Jack Stephens and Wesley Hoedt.

Stuart Armstrong will also make his first appearance for Southampton in midfield and is partnered with Oriol Romeu and Mario Lemina.

In attack, Nathan Redmond will support Charlie Austin, with another new Saints man, Danny Ings, only on the bench.

Southampton supporters will hope that the side’s home form can be a springboard towards a successful campaign and three points on opening day would be a great way to set the trend
