Chelsea saw off Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday evening, winning 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to book their spot in the quarter finals, and after the match their fans took to social media to celebrate the performance of a young star.
The Blues went into the tie in indifferent form in the Premier League, and with a mountain to climb in the Champions League when they go to Germany to take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of the last 16 tie later this month, the clash against the Reds became huge as they chase silverware this season.
The need to win to keep their hopes of a trophy alive meant that Frank Lampard named a pretty strong Chelsea side for the game, with some exciting youngsters mixed in with some experienced veterans, and it worked well for them.
The Blues were ahead when Willian sent in a long range effort which was too hot for Adrian to handle, and then in the second period a Ross Barkley strike ensured it would be the Londoners who would progress to the last eight of the famous competition.
There were some excellent performers on the evening for Chelsea, but the man who stole the limelight was youngster Billy Gilmour.
The midfielder put on an impressive display, one which was far beyond his years, to give the Blues faithful a lot of belief in him for the future, despite him doing more than enough to suggest he is ready to deliver the goods here and now.
The Chelsea star dazzled in the centre of the park, creating a number of chances and showing Lampard just what he has at his disposal.
Blues fans were all too aware of what they saw, and many of them took to social media after the contest to praise the youngster for his performance.
