Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi has stated that he is delighted he decided to stay at Chelsea, even though he was the target of a big money approach from Bayern Munich last season.
The England international finally got off the mark for the Blues in the Premier League in their 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday afternoon, having previously only scored for the Stamford Bridge outfit in cup competitions.
He was in the shadow of Eden Hazard last season, but with the former Chelsea star now plying his trade at Real Madrid, the stage is set for Hudson-Odoi to come out of the shadow and into the limelight, something he will be looking to do having returned from injury recently.
The 18-year-old signed a new contract with the Blues in September, reportedly earning him a cool £120,000 per week, despite handing in a transfer request when the interest from Bayern came about.
He believes that staying with Chelsea was the right decision, and has been reflecting on that publicly in recent times.
“The club have done so much for me and I’m so thankful for that,” BBC Sport quote him as saying.
“The decision that I made was a very good one for me and my family. We all thought that it was the right club to be at.
“I’ve been here all my life, so there’s no need to change yet. My mum and dad are happy where they are and I’m happy where I am.”
With Frank Lampard giving the youngsters the opportunities to express themselves at Chelsea at the minute, Hudson-Odoi has the potential to thrive in a side who may well go on to defy expectations this term.
With a European Championship at the end of the campaign, this season could be a breakthrough one for the happy Blues star.
