Crystal Palace fans saw their side go down 3-1 to the champions Manchester City at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon, and after the game they produced a mixed opinion over one of their players on social media.

Given that they had already beaten the Citizens this season, the Eagles were always likely to be on a bit of a hiding to nothing against the Premier League title chasers.

Roy Hodgson named a strong Palace side that was kitted out to hold the ball up in the City half and get runners around him, but his plans largely went out of the window just 15 minutes into the match, when Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the visitors.

The same man then had the Eagles in deep bother in the second half when he doubled the Citizens’ advantage, but the Londoners gave themselves hope when captain Luka Milivojevic halved the deficit with a free kick as time wound down.

As much as they tried though, Palace couldn’t force another opening and in trying to find the equalising goal, they were caught on the counter attack with Gabriel Jesus coming off the bench to secure the points for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Hodgson decided to start with Eagles forward Christian Benteke instead of his Belgian teammate Michy Batshuayi, and although the former Liverpool striker worked hard and attempted to hold the ball up, his important output looked to be lacking.

The Belgium international has had a really bad run of form for almost 18 months now, with confidence lacking in front of goal not being helped by a raft of injuries.

After the loss to City, many Palace fans flocked to social media to react to the performance of Benteke, with a mixed reaction being offered.

Some Eagles supporters felt he had a good game, while others seem to have long since written him off as not good enough, regardless of how his plays.
