Charlie Nicholas suggested on Sky Sports News (12:35pm, November 9, 2019) that Crystal Palace do not have funds to sign Alfredo Morelos from Rangers.

The former Celtic forward believes that Christian Benteke signing a new contract with Palace means that the Premier League do not have the money to bring Morelos to Selhurst Park in London from Rangers.

The Scottish Sun reported in October that Palace were planning to make a £20 million bid for the 23-year-old Colombia international striker.

Nicholas said on Sky Sports News (12:35pm, November 9, 2019): “I don’t think they have got the money. I don’t think they have got the investment that is sitting there.

“They keep linking Morelos at Rangers with coming down to Crystal Palace. I think when you get to the stage, with what they’re doing, they’re re-signing people like Benteke, who you thought would be available to try and sell.

“They re-signing him, it’s telling me that there isn’t that much funds for Roy [Hodgson] and I think he knows that.”

Rangers stay

While it is clear that Morelos is a very good striker and has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League, it is hard to see the Gers sell him in the middle of the season in the January transfer window.

After all, Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, and manager Steven Gerrard is unlikely to sanction a sale for the Colombian – who has scored nine goals in the league so far this season, according to BBC Sport.
