Leeds United are closing in on a deal to take Manchester United youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on loan for the 2017-18 Championship campaign, according to Sky Sports.

The Whites have undergone a serious transformation over the summer, with an array of signings joining new manager Thomas Christiansen at Elland Road.

Leeds supporters will hope that the Yorkshire club can build on last season’s seventh-placed Championship finish in 2017-18, with promotion back to the Premier League the ultimate goal.

One man to leave Elland Road this summer has been Charlie Taylor, with the home-grown youth academy graduate departing after his contract expired.

With the left-back subsequently joining Burnley, the exit leaves Leeds a player short in the full-back position.

Gaetano Berardi deputised well while Taylor was injured last season, but the hard-hitting defender is more at home on the right-hand side of a back four.

With this in mind, the potential signing of an orthodox left-back such as Borthwick-Jackson would certainly make sense for Leeds.

The 20-year-old wideman was given an opportunity in the United first team by former manager Louis van Gaal and put in a number of assured performances for the Red Devils.

Borthwick-Jackson’s relaxed demeanour gives off an external look of confidence and assurance, with the fleet-footed full-back seemingly set to have a bright future in the game.

The latest report suggests that the youngster completed a medical at the Championship club on Friday ahead of agreeing terms.

Leeds used the loan system last season both well and unsuccessfully, with the likes of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley excelling while on a deal with the Yorkshire side.

However, other temporary additions such as Alfonso Pedraza and Mo Borrow failed to make an impact.

With Matthew Pennington already on a season-long deal with Leeds from Everton, the Whites supporters will hope that a number of loan deals from Premier League clubs can provide extra reinforcements as the club pushes towards the Championship top six.

Christiansen’s men start their 2017-18 campaign on Sunday with a clash against Bolton Wanderers, with the fans keen to see the make-up of the starting XI.
