Aston Villa manager Dean Smith is keen on recruiting Ezri Konsa from Brentford this month, with a deal close to completion, according to Sky Sports.
The Villans are currently working on building a side that can be competitive as they return to the Premier League next season after promotion in 2018-19.
Villa were dominant during the final phase of the Championship last season, but the lack of consistency during the first half of last term proves that they still have plenty of flaws in their side.
Villa have been searching for new centre-backs this summer and recently completed the signing of Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth. Mings arrives at Villa Park after having impressed while on loan at the club during the second half of last season.
Konsa may well be tempted to move to Villa. Not only will it allow him an opportunity to play in the Premier League but he also previously worked very well with Dean Smith at Brentford.
Smith, who took the England youth international to Brentford, also holds him in high regard. Konsa is regarded as one of the Championships best young talents and would be a smart addition to the Villans as well as a good investment for the future.
Brentford reportedly want a fee of around £12 million for the player, with the report stating a deal could be completed on Thursday.
This would present a bargain fee for a top talent in today’s game.
The 21-year-old Konsa has a bright future ahead of him and deserves the opportunity to play in the Premier League for Villa.
