Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith is still looking to sign players before the transfer window shuts on Thursday, according to reports by Sky Sports News.
So far the newly promoted Premier League side have spent over £120m on 12 new players, as they gear up for their return to the top flight.
The latest deals that Villa have managed to get over the line came on Thursday, as Smith coughed up a further £20m on improving his squad.
The Villains confirmed the arrival of Marvelous Nakamba for over £11m from Club Brugge, with Tom Heaton also coming in from Burnley for £9m.
Smith has been linked with Brentford duo Said Benrahma and Neil Maupay as he looks to raid his former club, although Villa were put off by the £20m asking price for the pair.
Whether he will be able to get a deal over the line for one or both players before the transfer deadline is still to be seen, as the window closes at 5pm on Thursday 8th August.
Villa may be forced to look elsewhere for further additions though if Brentford refuse to budge on their demands, which could rush the promoted outfit into a last minute deal.
One thing supporters at Villa Park will be hoping to avoid is a similar fate to Fulham, who were also very active in the summer window following their promotion but were sent straight back down to the Championship.
That hasn’t put Smith off though, and he will be aiming to secure more additions before Thursday’s deadline.
