Glasgow Rangers could have to wait to get loan signing Jack Simpson from AFC Bournemouth, according to Sky Sports.
It appears as though a deal for the defender to head up to Scotland has been completed, but before the Cherries allow him to leave, they want to make sure the injury Nathan Ake picked up against Marseille on Saturday is not serious.
It is thought that the problem the Dutch centre-back sustained is not going to be anything that will eventually scupper the move, but it is likely to hold things up a touch while Eddie Howe and his coaching staff make 100% sure their star is not going to miss any sustained game time.
Simpson made his Premier League debut last season when he started the 4-0 defeat at Manchester City in December, but the only match he could get after that was in the FA Cup third round defeat against Wigan Athletic.
It doesn’t appear that the 21-year-old is any nearer the first team at the Vitality Stadium at the minute either, and it would make sense for him to leave on loan to gain experience and play more regularly.
Steven Gerrard has been searching for a defender to go alongside Connor Goldson for much of the summer, and it appears he has finally found a man to fill that void.
With Rangers back in Europa League on Thursday, and having got their Scottish Premiership campaign underway with a 1-1 draw at Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, the former Liverpool star will be wanting his new man at Ibrox as quickly as possible.
That would mean the latest delay will be an annoyance to the Gers boss, but having struggled to find the right defender all summer, a short wait should be acceptable given the troubles he has had thus far.
