Manchester United are keen to sign a replacement for the injured Marcus Rashford before the end of the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Englishman is set to be out of action until March after he suffered a double fracture in his back. This loss of the 22-year-old is going to be a major blow to the Red Devils.
“It’s just an unfortunate situation we’re in,” United manager Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“It might be, because the window is open, we might look at some short-term deals as well and that could take us through until the summer.
“We’re looking at numbers as well because we have had many injuries so if the right one is there, it’ll fit for us and we can buy and if there are loans available, it might be possible but I’ve got players here as well who are chomping at the bit.”
United have struggled for consistency so far this season while Rashford has been one of their most consistent performers.
He has found the back of the net 14 times from 22 league games this season whilst providing four assists in the process.
United have struggled for goals in the absence of the youngster. Anthony Martial led the line during the game against Liverpool this weekend but missed a glorious opportunity to win the game for his side.
Liverpool dominated the match and ultimately won 2-0.
United took a major gamble last summer by selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan whilst also loaning Alexis Sanchez to the same club.
They are not however permitted to recall the Chilean from the Italian giants. They also did not bring in direct replacements for the attacking duo.
United clearly need to bolster their options right now and may just need to look at the free-agent and loan market for a temporary option up front.
The report however added that they could look to promote from within with the likes of D’Mani Mellor and Largie Ramazani being two names from within their youth development system that they could look to promote.
