Everton winger Ademola Lookman will not be leaving Goodison Park on transfer deadline day, despite rumours of the contrary.
The exciting attacker spent the second half of last season away from Merseyside after joining Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on loan in January, much to the frustration of then Toffees boss Sam Allardyce, who appeared to want to keep him despite offering little game time.
Lookman proved a hit with the German side in his short spell there. He found the net five times in just 11 outings, and many expected a return in a more permanent move.
Leipzig are said to have tried everything to prize the England under-21 star away from Goodison, but new Toffees boss Marco Silva is keen to keep his exciting talent and it appears that he is going to get his wish.
If Lookman is to remain at Everton he is going to need to see a lot of game time, and that is something that Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers is expecting him to get.
“One significant piece of information is about Ademola Lookman. There’s been lots of interest in him.” The Sky Sports transfer blog quotes him as saying.
RB Leipzig have tried everything to get him out of Everton but I can tell you 100 per cent he’s staying at Everton.
“I’m also told he’s going to be a very big part of this season. So good news for Evertonians, Ademola Lookman will be staying at Everton.”
The winger has made 15 Premier League appearances for the Toffees and 24 in all competitions, but he hasn’t really had that standout spell in the side yet.
Some of that can be attributed to the negative style that Allardyce adopted last term, and so Lookman will be looking to advance his career at Goodison in the campaign ahead under a boss with a more positive approach.
Everton begin their Premier League season away to new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening. All eyes will be on Silva’s teamsheet to see if his attacker is on it, or if another false dawn awaits.
