Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is set to take on his former club Napoli in a bid to sign highly rated Italian winger Federico Chiesa, according to the Daily Express.
The Blues boss is looking to bolster his attacking depth in January, and has already identified one of the men he is looking to sign, but he faces plenty of competition for the Fiorentina star.
The Italy international has attracted interest from Juventus as well as Napoli, and the Old Lady is already said to have had a bid of £50 million turned down in the summer, so if Sarri is to get his man you would think he is going to have to spend big in an effort to get him to London.
Chiesa has been at Fiorentina for more than 10 years, coming through their academy before graduating and making his debut in the first team in 2016, when he was aged just 18.
The 20-year-old has gone on to become one of the finest talents in Italy and has already been capped by his country on seven occasions, including in their UEFA Nations League defeat to Portugal last week.
Chiesa is a right-winger so it could be that he is a longer term replacement for Willian come January. The Brazilian playmaker was heavily linked with Barcelona in the summer, and that deal could be revisited by the Spanish side when the transfer window reopens.
Chelsea maintained their perfect record in the Premier League with a big win over Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, but Sarri likes to play an attacking style and he lacks genuine depth for that, especially in the wider areas.
He is likely to be given the funds to go big in January, especially if the Blues remain in the title hunt, and one of the first men it looks like he will be chasing is the Fiorentina youngster.
