Sky Sports News presenter Jim White has suggested that Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic are lining up a double January transfer swoop.
The Bhoys have already made one signing since the window reopened, when they brought Vakoun Issouf Bayo to Celtic Park, and more players could be joining him.
Brendan Rodgers will have seen the statement of intent made from across Glasgow and will be eager to strengthen in the key areas, to ensure Celtic are strong enough for what looks like being a fascinating and intense Scottish Premiership title race.
One of the men the Bhoys are looking to sign, according to the journalist, is out of favour Everton midfielder James McCarthy. The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to get back in the team since recovering from his broken leg, and with the Toffees having a whole host of options in the centre of the park, he could be allowed to leave.
The other man that Celtic could be bringing in is Olympiakos full-back Omar Elabdellaoui. The Norwegian defender is very experienced having featured for his country on 34 occasions, and would bring about an assurance that could be needed as the campaign goes on.
White addressed the current status of both men on Wednesday, when he provided an update on the situation involving the pair.
“Celtic are set for a recruitment meeting today with two possible signings on the agenda, Omar Elabdellaoui and Everton’s James McCarthy.” He told his TalkSport show.
“The meeting is to decide who is or isn’t coming to the club. Omar Elabdellaoui is one name but, get this, James McCarthy from Everton is a possible target, on loan from Everton.”
Rangers have really upped the ante in the title race this season, and that means Rodgers will need to get very busy over the next couple of weeks to keep up. The early indications are that he intends to do just that.
