Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly make an improved offer for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to a report published by The Mirror.
The Lilywhites are set to bolster their side this summer and add a few prolific players to their squad.
Tottenham once again surpassed expectations during the past season as they claimed a top four finish and reached the Champions League final, which they lost against Liverpool in Madrid earlier this month.
In spite of this, Spurs never really threatened consistently to challenge for the Premier League title and as such expenditure in the transfer market this summer will be needed from the club to progress.
It is quite evident that Tottenham need to reinforce their side with more quality if they wish to finally end their trophy drought next season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have had a £53 million offer for Lo Celso rejected, according to the report, but Spurs are readying an improved offer.
This would be a Tottenham transfer record if a deal could be completed, surpassing the £42 million they shelled out for Davinson Sanchez.
Lo Celso, 23, is a bright young talent and starred for Betis in the La Liga during the past season as he went on to play 32 league games, scoring nine goals and recording four assists.
The reported Tottenham target is arguably one of the most gifted players in the Spanish top-flight outside of traditional giants Barcelona and Real Madrid and would be a good fit in Pochettino’s future plans.
Lo Celso could be a good replacement for Mousa Dembele, who left Spurs in January in order to move to the Chinese Super League.
