Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to have become interested in potentially recruiting Lille sensation Nicolas Pepe, according to a report published by Football Insider.
The 23-year-old has been one of the breakout stars in the Ligue 1 this season. He has so far contributed to 34 goals from 36 appearances, scoring 20 goals and recording 14 assists.
Reported Tottenham target Pepe was one of the players who starred during Lille’s recent shock 5-1 demolition of French giants PSG and he even managed to score a goal during the game.
Spurs could however face strong competition for the services of the Ivorian. He has reportedly also attracted interest from other powerhouses in European football, including Chelsea.
Tottenham have not signed anyone in the last two transfer windows, but with their stadium move now complete, the North London fanbase will hope the club back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market.
Pepe could well be a shrewd acquisition for Spurs, who rely on speed and penetration in the final third.
Lille President Gerard Lopez has admitted that it could be difficult to prevent Pepe from leaving.
“Four or five players will be leaving this summer’ “All clubs are forced to balance their accounts except perhaps one. I would say yes, it is sure he (Pepe) will leave.
“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”
Tottenham fans may be sceptical over signing players from France though, with a number of high-profile flops moving from Ligue 1 to White Hart Lane in recent years.
