Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Argentine starlet Agustin Almendra, according to a report published by II Matino.
The youngster hails from Boca Juniors – a club renowned for producing some of the finest talents in Argentine football.
Notable players who have emerged from their ranks during this century include Carlos Tevez, Fernando Gago, Ever Banega and Nico Gaitan.
The 19-year-old is a formidable talent and could blossom into a quality player in the future. The reported Tottenham target has all the ingredients required to succeed under the guidance of Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who also happens to be an Argentine.
Almendra has also drawn comparisons to Argentine football great Juan Roman Riquelme. During the height of his career, Riquelme was regarded as being one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.
He had the privilege of playing for Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Villarreal, Argentinos Juniors as well as the Argentinian national team during a distinguished career which ended in 2014.
The report added that the player is in demand and that Tottenham may have to compete with the likes of PSG, Inter Milan and Benfica in the race to secure his signature.
Something that may work in the North Londoners favour is the fact that the Spurs manager and Almendra are both Argentine. Unlike many other distinguished clubs across Europe, Tottenham also have a good reputation for the way in which they treat young talent.
If Almendra joins Spurs, he would be likely to get a chance to prove himself, unlike what will happen at many other elite clubs.
