Report: Slaven Bilic may be sacked with defeat against Newcastle

Slaven Bilic could be sacked if West Bromwich Albion are beaten in their upcoming Premier League game against Newcastle United, according to Steve Madeley of The Athletic.

“The head coach is still in post and looks set to get at least one more game, at Newcastle United on Saturday, to turn around a season that is threatening to unravel spectacularly after yesterday’s 5-1 capitulation at home to Crystal Palace.

But there is little doubt that Bilic’s position at The Hawthorns is under greater scrutiny than at any stage in his 18-month reign, with relations with his employers fragile.

Bilic is doing an unenviable job this season with a sub-standard squad, having done an unbelievable one last season to achieve promotion without a seasoned goalscorer.

But he has made mistakes, too, and if he loses his job in the weeks ahead, they are what Albion’s decision-makers will point to in justifying their call.”

The Baggies have struggled since returning to the Premier League. They had a net spend of around £30 million with striker Karlan Grant only scoring once so far in the top-flight since his arrival from Huddersfield Town.

The Baggies are currently in 19th place in the league standings, with just six points from 11 games following their 5-1 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The league table typically takes shape around the festive period. The Baggies are, however, just one point adrift of safety. A run of good results could see them climb up the table quickly. But, it remains to be seen whether that will be with Bilic in control.
