Rangers have offered Mexer a three-year contract, with the Gers hoping that the defender will travel to Scotland to watch the Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox this weekend, according to The Scottish Sun.
Mexer is out of contract at Rennes at the end of the season, and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has reportedly made a move to sign the central defender on a free transfer this summer.
With the 30-year-old suspended for Rennes’s match against Guingamp, Rangers have reportedly invited the Mozambique international to Ibrox to watch the Scottish Premiership game between the Gers and Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
Rangers, though, are facing competition for Mexer, with The Scottish Sun claiming of interest in the former Sporting Lisbon and Nacional central defender from Nantes, Bordeaux and Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to WhoScored, Mexer has made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes, and also played seven times in the Europa League and five times in Coupe de France this season.
