According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 67, December 1, 2019), Rangers, Newcastle United and Southampton are interested in signing Carlisle United central defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Steven Bruce’s Newcastle have been tracking Branthwaite.
The report has also suggested that Southampton are leading the race for the 17-year-old central defender.
Branthwaite is a very talented and promising young centre-back who is doing well for Carlisle at the moment.
According to WhoScored, the teenager has made six appearances in League Two for Carlisle so far this season.
The 17-year-old is playing senior football for the first time only this season, but he is doing well and has shown a lot of promise.
The teenager can certainly take the step up and play for Rangers, Newcastle or Southampton, but he will have to play for the Under-23 sides initially.
