Leeds United are seriously interested in Barcelona youngster Rafa Mujica, according to a report published by Football Insider.
The report added that the Whites director of football Victor Orta and his team are working hard to secure a deal for the player by this summer as a free-agent.
The youngster has been capped by the Spanish youth teams and played regularly for Barcelona B this season. The reported Leeds target went on to score seven goals from 33 appearances for his side and has all the ingredients of a player that could succeed playing in the Championship.
The chances are high that Mujica will be willing to consider a move away from the Blaugrana this summer. He is unlikely to break into the first-team anytime soon and would be better off looking elsewhere to find first-team opportunities, with Leeds possibly able to offer him this.
Barcelona are also likely to go for tried and tested rather than give younger starlets an opportunity to impress next season following their humiliating Champions League exit against Liverpool.
Since Orta started working for Leeds, the club has signed many young Spanish players. His presence could make securing a deal for Mujica easier.
Leeds will ideally want to keep the core of the team ahead of next season. However, the way the club’s form declined during the latter part of this season proved that they have many flaws which need to be rectified before the start of next season if they want to challenge for promotion next term.
