Crystal Palace are interested in Scottish youngster Scott Banks, according to a report which was published by The Sun.
The Selhurst Park club’s interest in the youngster will come as a surprise to many considering that he has not been playing regularly for Dundee United so far this season.
Reported Palace target Banks has made just one appearance in the Scottish Championship so far this season, while he has played three times in the Scottish League Cup.
The report added that the Eagles have been tracking the player for a number of months.
The 18-year-old reportedly does not want to sign a new contract with Dundee so it does look like there is a high chance that he will be leaving soon.
Palace are hoping that they can reach a compromise fee with Dundee United and recruit the player for a small fee.
In that case, it would be a worthwhile risk for the Eagles.
Since Roy Hodgson took over at Palace in 2017, the club has been frugal in the transfer market.
In that time, Cheikhou Kouyate has been the only player whom they have spent a significant fee to recruit.
The only players whom Palace paid to sign over the summer were Jordan Ayew and James McCarthy, while they gained more than £50 million for the sale of Aaron Wan Bissaka.
If Banks does end up joining Hodgson’s side, the club should look to loan him out as soon as possible to gauge if he has the potential to succeed.
