Manchester United are interested in signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, according to a report which was published by The Mirror.
The Germany international is one of the most highly-rated strikers in world football.
The reported United target has played a key role in Leipzig’s rise to prominence during recent seasons and has gone on to score 70 goals from 125 appearances for the club.
He also managed an impressive hat-trick for his club during their 8-0 demolition Mainz recently.
Werner will likely have to leave his current employers at some point if he wants to take his career to the next level and a move to United could appeal to the striker.
The report stipulates that Liverpool are also interested in the Leipzig man and a battle for his services could ensue in January.
It added that United could potentially end up signing the player for a bargain price.
Werner did sign a new four-year contract with Leipzig last summer, however it is claimed that the contract contains a release clause that could allow him to leave for just £27 million.
This figure would represent a bargain for United in the modern day transfer market.
United would easily be able to sign Werner for that price. The Red Devils will clearly need to add a few world-class players to their squad during the near future.
As things stand, the Red Devils look far from being a side that could potentially challenge for a top-four finish this season.
United also failed to secure a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left them last summer to link up with Inter Milan.
Werner would represent an apt signing and provide competition for places in attack alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
