Manchester United are interested in signing Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, according to 90min.
Aaron Wan Bissaka has made the first-choice right-back role at Old Trafford his own. But, his performance levels could drop without tough competition. The English youngster clearly has tremendous potential, but he still has evident flaws in his attacking game and strong competition could help him reach the next level.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah hasn’t been able to solidify his place in the line-up despite being highly thought of, while Diogo Dalot’s loan to AC Milan may suggest that he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Trippier has established himself as a crucial part of the Atleti first-team since signing for the Spanish side from Tottenham Hotspur. However, he will have just one year remaining on his contract next summer, which means that the La Liga club could be tempted to sell.
The 30-year-old has proven this season that he can play at the top level for at least another two seasons and has experience of playing in the Premier League, which would suit United.
With Atletico currently sitting top of La Liga, it is unlikely that Trippier would be willing to join United unless they can offer Champions League football next season.
There is no doubt that the experienced full-back could provide solid competition to Wan Bissaka and also add some much-needed leadership to the United dressing room.
