Manchester United could be set to renew their interest in Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic, according to a report which was published by The Sun.
The 31-year-old is reportedly considering his future at the Camp Nou due to a lack of first-team opportunities so far this season. He has so far played just six games in all competitions to date.
United were heavily linked with a move for the Croatian international last summer as they looked to overhaul their squad.
Despite reported interest from the Red Devils as well as Italian giants Juventus, Rakitic opted to remain with Barcelona after talks with manager Ernesto Valverde.
Rakitic appears to have suddenly slipped down the pecking order at the Blaugrana this season.
This will be incredibly frustrating for him when considering that he has been an important first-team member of the squad since arriving at the club in 2014 from Sevilla.
Arturo Vidal is currently playing often while Valverde also seems to be preferring new signing Frenkie De Jong over Rakitic.
The 104 times capped Croatian may now be into his 30’s but he is capable of still churning out world-class displays.
If he is unhappy, a move away from Barcelona would make complete sense for both club and player.
Manchester United should come circling if the player continues to be unhappy. The Red Devils need to have a balance of experience and youth if they want to play well.
They currently lack a winning mentality and Rakitic is a player who can provide them with just that.
