Manchester United are plotting a double raid on Leeds United for the services of Kalvin Phillips and Ben White, according to Football Insider.
The Red Devils are clearly a work in progress and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned the club’s focus away from achieving instant success.
United are now aiming to emulate former manager Sir Alex Ferguson in a sense that they are trying to develop for the future, whilst keeping the core of their team British.
This vision was seen in Solskjaer’s activity during the summer transfer window.
Rather than United spending massively on recruiting established stars, the club opted to recruit British players in Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka.
Out of all three, Maguire was the only one who had a significant level of experience in the top-flight.
Wan Bissaka arrived on the back of an impressive season with Crystal Palace while James showed signs of brilliance for Swansea in the Championship last season.
United are so far proving to be unconvincing this season and they do face a tough challenge to secure a top four finish this season.
Solskjaer though cannot be totally faulted for the club’s situation as he has been unlucky with injuries.
The three big signings which he made last summer have also proven to be solid players for the team so far.
Phillips and White are an important part of Leeds’ efforts to get the Yorkshire club promoted back to the Premier League this season.
