Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out in the race to sign Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral during the January transfer window, according to Tuttosport.
Both fallen English giants need to bolster their defences during the near future, with the Red Devils and Gunners conceding goals carelessly so far this season.
The 21-year-old Demiral joined Juve during the summer from Sassuolo but he has so far been unable to win a place in the first-team plans of Maurizio Sarri and has gone on to make just one appearance in all competitions thus far.
The Turkey international is also down the pecking order at Juve with Sarri preferring the likes of Daniel Rugani, Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci in the absence of Georgio Chiellini.
Arsenal landed David Luiz in the summer but so far the experienced Brazilian ha done very little to improve the Gunners defence.
Unai Emery’s side look like they could potentially be set to miss out on a top four finish for a fourth successive season amidst holding an unstable defence.
United’s defending has actually been stronger than their attacking so far this season.
Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan Bissaka have brought in some stability to the Red Devils back-line.
Demiral may well be tempted to leave Juventus soon in order to find regular first-team football.
A move to either United or Arsenal would surely appeal, if the Turin-based outfit is willing to cash-in on the Turkey international.
