Leeds United have made an ambitious attempt to sign Wolves star Helder Costa on loan for next season, according to a report published by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Portugal international did not have the best of season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side last term as he made 30 appearances in all competitions.
Reported Leeds target Costa was however a key part for the Molineux side during the 2017/18 campaign when they won promotion to the top-flight from the Championship.
Costa will be looking to push for selection to the Portugal national team so it remains to be seen whether he will be willing to go down a division.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is looking to bolster his wide options this summer, especially as Jack Harrison’s loan spell at Elland Road has finished.
The Whites looked almost certain to win promotion to the Premier League last term before a late-season slump in form saw them lose their playoff semi-final against Derby County.
Leeds need to make some smart additions to their side this summer if they want to challenge for automatic promotion next season.
Costa would definitely be a good addition the the Yorkshire giants. He has the capability of shining in the Championship and would certainly add value to Bielsa’s side.
However, it is difficult to see him opting for a move to Leeds.
He may consider a switch away from Wolves if he is given assurances over first-team action but if he does indeed leave Molineux, it is likely to be to another Premier League side or at least to a side which plays in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
