Glasgow Rangers attacker Glenn Middleton is believed to want to play his football in England next season, according to a report by Football Insider.
They claim the 19-year-old is ready to tell the Ibrox club that he would prefer to continue his development with a club south of the border rather than remain in Scotland on a temporary deal.
Middleton is expected to be loaned out this summer as Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and the Light Blues’ hierarchy rate him very highly, however, it will be incredibly difficult for him to get the minutes he needs at this stage of his career if he were to remain at Ibrox.
The Gers teenager definitely has an exciting future ahead of him as he has already shown glimpses of quality in the early stages of his career, having netted five times for Rangers last season.
However, with Gerrard likely wanting to add to his squad this summer – and in a position that already has a number of players fighting it out for a starting berth – Middleton’s chances could be extremely limited throughout the 2019/20 campaign.
The likes of Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo are thought to be on their radar, whilst Daniel Candeias, Jordan Jones and Jamie Murphy are likely going to be battling it out for a place in the Rangers first-team.
A move to the English Championship could help aid his development and help take him to the next step of his game.
If Middleton was to get the minutes he needs, he could learn a lot about his game and once he returns to Ibrox, the young Rangers starlet could be in a better position to challenge for a place in Gerrard’s first-team squad.
