Everton have made an approach to Paris Saint-Germain over potentially signing right-back Thomas Meunier, according to a report published by French outlet Le10 Sport.
The 27-year-old’s current contract with the French giants is due to expire during the summer of 2020 so the club may be open to receiving a good offer for him this summer in order to avoid losing him for free during the following summer.
Prior to this season, there were a lot of heavy expectations on Everton following their extensive transfer activity last summer.
Some expected the Toffees to strongly compete for the right to play European football next season.
However, Everton have failed to live up to expectations and there is quite evidently a gulf in class between the Merseysiders and the top four teams in England.
Marco Silva’s current right-back options in Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny are failing to impress. The performances of the 30-year-old Coleman appears to be on a downward spiral while Kenny has not yet proven that he is capable of teaching at the club on a long-term basis.
Meunier would be a good purchase for Silva’s Everton side given that he has Champions League experience and will also bring in a winning mentality to the club due to his successes with PSG.
It is quite evident that the Toffees need to make new signings if they do wish to genuinely establish themselves as a giant of football in England. This is a player whom they must push very hard to sign next summer.
