Report: Everton linked with audacious swoop, would be great signing

Everton are interested in signing right-back Emerson this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

After leaving Atletico Mineiro at the end of last season, the one-time capped Brazil international signed a joint deal with Barcelona and Real Betis. He has spent this season on the books of Betis and shone.

Th reported Everton target has been a first-team regular for the La Liga side and proven that he can play at an elite level.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona will be looking to lure Emerson into their ranks ahead of next season.

Though Everton’s performances has improved under Carlo Ancelotti, they will be hoping to challenge for European football next season.

The Toffees may want to bolster their right-back options. It looks uncertain as to whether Djibril Sidibe will want to remain at the club beyond this season.

Everton stalwart Seamus Coleman is also 32-years-old and past his prime whilst it is also uncertain if Jonjoe Kenny sees his future at the club following an impressive loan spell in Germany with Schalke during the first half of the season.

One of Emerson’s strengths is that he is an attacking threat.

The South American has managed to score three goals as well as contribute five assists this season, which is impressive for a defensive player.

He could be open to playing under Ancelotti who is one of Europe’s best managers and could reinforce the Everton backline.

However, he is unlikely to come cheap. He will be in demand and it remains to be seen if Everton will have the funds to lure him.
