According to The Mirror, Leeds United are open to handing Gaetano Berardi a new contract.
Berardi, who can operate as a right-back, left-back or centre-back, is out of contract at Leeds at the end of the season.
It has been reported that the Championship club are open to handing a new deal to the 31-year-old and will leave the final decision up to the defender.
The report has claimed that the Leeds hierarchy want the defender to stay at Elland Road beyond next summer due to his experience.
Leeds United stay
Berardi has been at Leeds since 2014 and is a very popular figure in the dressing room as well as among the Elland Road fans.
However, the defender has not been a regular under head coach Marcelo Bielsa, and he has also had injury issues.
According to WhoScored, the former Brescia and Sampdoria defender has made two starts and three substitute appearances in the Championship for Leeds so far this season.
During the 2018-19 campaign, Berardi made 12 starts and three substitute appearances in the league for the West Yorkshire outfit, providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
