Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes is reportedly keen to join Everton this summer, according to a report published by Football Insider.
The 23-year-old was one of the few bright sparks in what was an underwhelming season for the Swans in the Championship. Grimes was a mainstay in midfield for the Welsh giants and went on to make 45 appearances, scoring one goal and recording four assists.
The reported Everton target was rewarded for his consistency by being named as Swansea’s Player of the Season.
Grimes is now at a stage where he is capable of playing in the Premier League for a side like the Toffees.
The former England U-21 international is contracted to the Swans until the summer of 2022 but Everton could have a good chance of luring him to Merseyside should they make a serious move this summer.
The Toffees had a season filled with highs and lows. There are plenty of positives to take from the season for Marco Silva’s men but Everton clearly need to bolster their side if they want to challenge for a place in the top six next season, particularly in midfield.
Andre Gomes excelled for the Toffees on loan from Barcelona this season. However, the Portugal international has been linked with a number of other clubs and he could be tempted to leave Goodison Park if he gets the opportunity to play European football next season.
The report added that Everton are also interested in Swansea winger Daniel James. The Merseysiders may however have to compete with Manchester United in the race to sign the 21-year-old.
