Aston Villa star John McGinn is on Manchester United’s wanted list, with the Midlands outfit set to face a battle to hold onto the all-action midfielder, according to ESPN.
The Red Devils will surely aim to bolster their side during the January transfer window and the Scot’s name as a potential target makes sense.
The 25-year-old has proven himself to be quite an apt talent during recent months and has been one of Villa’s better performers in the Premier League so far this season.
McGinn could be keen on a switch to Old Trafford so that he can take his career to another level.
The report however did claim that Villa will not entertain any bids for the player in January and may only listen to offers next summer if a high bid comes in.
It would indeed be vital for Dean Smith’s side to keep the core of their squad intact in January.
Villa are currently just three points above the relegation zone and are likely to be involved in the relegation dog-fight this season.
McGinn joined the Villans from Hibernian during the summer of 2018 after a potential move to Scottish giants Celtic fell through.
He played a crucial role in helping Smith’s Villa side to win promotion to the Premier League last season, along with Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham who was then on loan with the West Midlands club.
He has since managed to prove himself to be a solid player at Premier League level. Villa must not rush into selling McGinn.
