Aston Villa are ready to open talks with striker Keinan Davis over signing a new contract, according to a report by Football Insider.
The 21-year-old’s current deal at Villa Park is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning the Premier League side will need to act quickly if they want to hold onto the rising star.
Since bursting onto the Villa first-team scene back in 2016, Davis has gone on to play 39 league games and scored two goals for the club. His record is not exactly prolific but he is still a young player and will likely get better with time and experience.
Davis has yet to play a Premier League game this season but that is likely to change with time.
As things stand, Villa boss Dean Smith only has Wesley Moraes, Jonathan Kodjia and Davis as his senior striking options. The youngster is currently third-choice striker but if either Moraes and Kodjia suffer an injury, he will likely be summoned.
The signs that the Vilal youngster has shown so far during the early stages of his career suggest that he is capable of succeeding at the highest level.
Davis is a naturally physical player and has good football intelligence, which makes him an exciting prospect for the future.
Davis has been with the Villans since he was an U18 player and is likely to know the club inside out by now.
He is capable of becoming a first-team regular going forward as long as he keeps working hard in training.
A new Villa deal will be the best thing to happen for both player and club at this stage.
