Aston Villa target Gaston Pereiro has reportedly been dropped to the PSV reserve side amidst speculation that the Eredivisie side want to sell the player before the end of the transfer window, according to Voetbal Primeur.
The Uruguay international is one of the best attacking players in the Dutch top-flight.
The reported Villa transfer target scored a beautiful goal for PSV against Feyenoord in December which could be a contender for the Eredivisie goal of the season award.
The winger’s contract with his current club is due to end at the end of the season and he is refusing to sign a new deal.
This essentially means that PSV will have to sell him this month or they will risk losing him for free at the end of the season – a soutation that Villa could take advantage of.
Pereiro was left out of PSV’s match day squad for their 2-0 loss in the KNVB Cup against Fortuna Sittard on Thursday.
Pereiro has been on the books of PSV since 2015 and has thus far gone on to score 44 goals from 118 league appearances for the club.
This is a healthy strike rate and he has the attributes which are required to be a success in England.
Villa clearly need to try and make signings before the end of the month.
They are currently in 16th place on the league standings and just two points above the relegation zone.
Villa face a stiff test to avoid the drop and need one or two attacking players to come in and increase their goal tally – but have received good news about Pereiro.
“Steven Bergwijn and Gaston Pereiro did not join their PSV team mates for training on Tuesday morning,” a statement on the club’s website read.
“Bergwijn has been given permission by PSV to travel to England to finalise a move.
“Pereiro was also absent from training to complete a deal.”
