Report: Arsenal do not have deal in place to keep 28-year-old at the Emirates Stadium

Premier League club Arsenal have reportedly not negotiated a deal to keep right-back Cedric Soares at the club beyond June 30, according to the London Evening Standard.

The 28-year-old is currently spending a short loan with the North London club, with the Southampton man penning the deal with the Gunners in January.

Initially, it was expected that Soares—who is currently in the final year of his contract with the Saints—will join Arsenal in the summer transfer window as a free agent.

However, as per the Evening Standard, Arsenal have not negotiated a deal to keep Soares at the club beyond his current contractual obligation.

The report further stated that the Gunners’ hierarchy only has a week left to make the player agree in extending his contract till the end of the ongoing campaign, which is delayed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Soares has been a Southampton player since the summer of 2015 when he moved from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

Since then, the former Inter Milan right-back has represented the Saints in 138 matches in all competitions where he has three goals and 11 assists to his name.

Ever since moving to Arsenal in the January transfer window, Soares has struggled with fitness and as things stand, it is very likely that he will leave Gunners without playing a single game.
