Report: Arsenal ask club about winter move for player made available

Arsenal are understood to have asked AC Milan about the possibility of signing Franck Kessie this month, according to a report by Corriere Dello Sport.

The Gunners, who may have to compete with West Ham United, are said to have held a long interest in the Ivory Coast international and have been tipped as a potential destination.

The Italian media outlet claims the Rossoneri are looking to offload players as part of an overhaul and Kessie is thought to be one of the names to have been made available.

However, there has been no suggestion as to whether a serious move for the 23-year-old will be made.

Indeed, it would not be a surprise if Mikel Arteta would want to make changes to the Arsenal side he inherited from Unai Emery at the first opportunity and Kessie could, perhaps, be a good addition for the Gunners.

The Ivorian is a defensive midfielder that could, potentially, help to solidify things in front of the backline. According to the data by WhoScored, the African has managed to achieve an average of 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 0.4 clearances in his 16 Serie A appearances so far.

When comparing that to the likes of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, he could face a problem, though.

Both of the aforementioned Arsenal men appear to have better statistics than Kessie at the moment, which could make it harder to include the AC Milan player in the north-London set-up from the beginning.

Torreira has averages of 1.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 0.9 clearances in his 19 appearances, whereas Guendouzi has achieved 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.5 clearances in his 19 Premier League outings (per WhoScored).
