Glasgow Celtic went down 1-0 to rivals Rangers in the second Old Firm derby of the season at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, and after the match their fans showed their concern for a star man when reacting to the game on social media.

The Bhoys went into the contest three points clear of the Gers, but will go into the winter break on top of the Scottish Premiership table on goal difference only, after a defeat which Brendan Rodgers admitted was the correct result.

The Celtic boss freshened his side up for the encounter with the tussle being their third match in a week, but despite the changes he made to the team, the league leaders produced a flat performance and were soundly beaten.

Had it not been for goalkeeper Craig Gordon, the margin of victory would have been much larger.

Scott Brown wasn’t one of the changes made by the Bhoys manager, but he was a player who struggled throughout the encounter. The veteran midfielder has had an up and down campaign because of injuries but often delivers the goods in the big matches.

That was not the case here though as the Celtic midfield was overrun and struggled to get a foothold in the match, against a Rangers side who were extremely motivated by a raucous home crowd.

The defeat will be a wake-up call for the Bhoys, but as far as their captain is concerned there are supporters wondering if the sloppy performance was a sign that he could be coming to the end of his time at the top level.

Many Celtic fans reacted on social media after the match, and the display of their leader on the pitch was a regular topic among their many posts on Twitter.
