Glasgow Rangers conclude their campaign on Sunday afternoon when they make the trip to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, and they could see a return from long-term injury for Graham Dorrans.
The Gers know there is nothing on this match for them in terms of a competitive outcome, with the title long gone and their spot in Europe next term already secured.
With that in mind, Rangers have decided to send Scott Arfield and Nikola Katic on their holidays early. The pair will spend much of the close season with their national teams, and with the new season beginning at Ibrox early with their European exploits, this is the only chance for them to get a rest.
Gers assistant manager Gary McAllister provided an update on the status of their squad going into the Kilmarnock game, and also highlighted a man who could make a long-awaited return from injury.
“Everybody is looking pretty fit. We do have a few little concerns over a couple, but come the weekend, they should be fine.” The Rangers official website quotes him as saying.
“There might be a couple of little changes in there. Nikola Katic and Scott Arfield have gone on holiday, as this is the only window we have to get the players away for some down-time as they have games in the summer.
“Graham Dorrans has featured well in training recently and has had a couple of games behind closed-doors and has done very well, so he will come into consideration for the weekend.”
Rangers head into the match against Steve Clarke’s men looking to end their season with seven wins in a row. While that will not have any impact in their success this term, if they are going to close the gap on rivals Celtic in the future, sustained runs of form like this one will serve them well, so the challenge should be there to finish their campaign on a high.
