Oldham centre-half George Edmundson is now a wanted man, since being named in the League Two team of the season, with Glasgow Rangers one of the teams linked with him, according to the Daily Mail.

He appeared in 54 games for Oldham last season, and won ‘Community Trust player of the season’ and ‘Players’ player of the season’ awards.

Seemingly he received some VIP treatment by Steven Gerrard, when up at Glasgow Rangers training ground.

The Hummel Training Centre has been extensively upgraded by Rangers recently and includes several top-class amenities that will pleasantly surprise any new players.

The chances of Oldham keeping hold of Edmundson look bleak now that interest in his services continue to increase dramatically.

The Oldham Evening Chronicle understands that apart from Rangers, the Latics have Hull, Preston, Sunderland, and Stoke all interested in the defender.

The bosses at Boundary Park have a valuation they require before they will sell their top asset now, as his contract runs out next summer.

Edmundson is an Oldham Athletic Academy product who impressed immensely last season, and became an ever present next to centre back Peter Clarke.

His old Latics team-mate Lee Croft had Edmundson marked out as a future England star from the first day he worked with him.

St Johnstone Scottish Cup-winner Croft spotted a star in the making a few years ago, and is convinced Edmundson can crack playing in the SPFL.

Croft knew for certain that if big George continued to keep his place in the Oldham side, the 6ft 3 inch defender would be in demand from other clubs.

They don’t come much bigger than Rangers playing in front of an enthusiastic 51,000 loyal and highly vocal fans at every Ibrox game.

They can offer Edmundson a Europa League experience that other English sides cannot provide, and there is also a better chance of winning silverware at Rangers.

Especially with Gerrard as the manager and the brilliant ex-Liverpool coaches he brought with him to Ibrox.

“I’m sure George will know all about it as well,” the Daily Record state Croft as saying.

“Steven’s cousin Anthony plays for Oldham so I’m sure he will have used the family connection to get a bit of info on George and vice versa.

“Rangers are a big draw right now with Gerrard there. He’s a huge name in England and there’s a lot more interest in Scottish football right now.

“People are looking at what’s going on and I’m sure players look at the opportunity to work with Gerrard as a major incentive.”

Scottish giants Rangers would be an excellent choice for him at this stage of his career. Gerrard would certainly help him to reach his full potential.

He is young, brave, strong, a good tackler and excellent in the air, and if he continues to develop properly at Ibrox, he could be massive bargain buy.
