Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter has joined Fleetwood Town on a season-long loan, the Scottish giants have confirmed on their official website.

The 22-year-old joined the Gers in 2016 from Liverpool in a £250,000 deal but has had a torrid run of injuries at Ibrox and has made just 16 appearances in all competitions.

Rossiter last featured for Rangers in the draw with Hibernian on Boxing Day and it is likely fans of the Glasgow club will have seen the last of the Liverpool-born player as his contract runs out next summer.

The midfielder had better luck at the back end of last season during a loan spell at Bury where he played 16 times, scoring once, as the Shakers achieved promotion from League Two.

The former Liverpool man has fallen down the pecking order at Rangers as manager Steven Gerrard has been quick to move for Southampton’s Steven Davis and Charlton Athletic star Joe Aribo, who was a key player in the Addicks’ promotion from League One last term.

Greg Docherty and Jason Holt have also returned to the Gers from their respective loan spells, which pushes the midfielder further down the ranks.

Former Rangers man Joey Barton, now manager of Fleetwood, has returned to his old side to capture Rossiter who he played alongside with during his brief time at Ibrox.

The Gers have been active in the transfer market this summer spending nearly £1million to secure Aribo and George Edmundson from Oldham Athletic while Davis, Jake Hastie, Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart all join on free transfers.

Gerrard has also used his connection with Liverpool to secure winger Sheyi Ojo on a season-long loan.

Rangers begin the new domestic campaign at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock on August 4.
