Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has categorically ruled out any chance of him joining Glasgow Rangers before the transfer window closes.
The former Spurs star shares an agent with Gers boss Steven Gerrard, which has created plenty of rumours of a potential late switch which would see the forward leave the Cherries and head to Scotland.
Defoe has been a regular goalscorer wherever he has been in his career, and as he approaches the start of another season he sits on 273 career goals in domestic competitions at a better than one-in-three ratio.
Four of those goals came in his first campaign at the Vitality Stadium, in a frustrating beginning to life at Bournemouth last term. He will be looking to kick on over the months to come and is adamant he will be remaining in Dorset, but acknowledged he has seen the Rangers rumours linking him with an Ibrox switch.
“I saw some of that, but again, that’s just something I’ve always had.” The Scotsman quote him as saying.
“Even when I’ve been at clubs and played every game, you’ll always find something, especially with social media now.
“I’ve played with Steven Gerrard and we’ve got the same agent. I’m just like everyone else, you see things on Twitter and in the papers, but that’s it really.”
Gerrard has been looking for a deadly finisher to compliment his side’s attacking play throughout the summer. He has strengthened the Rangers squad in a number of areas, but he hasn’t yet found the man he is looking for to spearhead his attack.
Defoe would undoubtedly have been an outstanding signing for the former Liverpool and England star, but it appears that the striker is going nowhere, which leaves the Gers boss heading back to the drawing board ahead of his side beginning their Scottish Premiership campaign at Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.
