21-year-old centre half Joe Worrall has recently hit a slump in his performances during the last three matches, and the fans want Nikola Katic to replace him.
Unfortunately for Worrall, the Glasgow Rangers supporters are notoriously hard to please, and it doesn’t take them long to make up their minds about how you have fared for the team.
The signed loanee from Nottingham Forest has come in for loads of heavy criticism over his under achieving displays, especially as young Katic was forming a terrific partnership with Connor Goldson at the back.
It doesn’t make sense to most of the Light Blue brigade why Steven Gerrard changed a winning combination to try and fit in Worrall.
Was it because he promised the Nottingham based player that he would be given first team football, if he joined the Gerrard revolution at Ibrox?
His recent comments made about signing permanently for the club, went down like a lead balloon when he said no, I am only here for a year, that’s all. That certainly hasn’t helped his case with the fanbase.
Another thing that Worrall has to contend with, is that Katic had firmly won over many fans with a number of stellar performances, and won many MOTM awards with certain fans.
Katic has rarely put a foot wrong and was a major part of the defensive unit that propelled Rangers into the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
21-year-old Katic signed a four-year-contract in the summer, and is the future of our defensive qualities, while Worrall goes back to the Midlands to play for his own club. It simply doesn’t make sense to play him ahead of the Croatian.
If Gerrard insists on using Worrall, then play with three at the back that consists of Katic, Goldson and Worrall, and play James Tavernier and Borna Barisic as the two wing-backs to bolster our defence and stop so many goals being scored against Rangers.
